Asia Argento, born in Rome to a family which comprises directors and actors was a professional in both fields. As a young girl the actress began her acting career in Sergio Cittis's Sogni e bisogni. In 1994, Asia turned her hand to directing and turned out two short films, Prospettive and Prospettive In 1996 she directed a documentary on her father and, in 1998, a film about cult director Abel Ferrara, Abel/Asia (1998), which received an award from the Rome Film Festival. In 1999 Asia made her feature-directing debut with Scarlet Diva (2000), where she played the lead actress as well as the writer of the screenplay. The film came out in May 2000 across Italy as well as the rest of the world. It was awarded a trophy during the Williamsburg International Film Festival. Brooklyn. Anna Lou, the first of her two daughters, was born in January of 2001. She was a part of Jean-Marc Barr's performance in The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she appeared with Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action thriller. Asia is the writer of several short stories, which were released in several magazines.
